Buy pure rayon from bamboo if the garment should hang - a tee, a summer top, a shawl. Buy the cotton-bamboo blend if it has to hold a shape or go in a dryer, because the cotton supplies the wet strength the rayon does not have. Whichever you pick, dry it flat: rayon is weak when wet and a hung garment lengthens permanently.

That one row is the whole engineering story. Rayon loses substantial strength when wet; cotton is one of the very few fibers that is actually stronger wet than dry. Half cotton is enough to make the fabric survive a dryer.
Design around the lack of recovery
- Knit firmer than feels natural. A loose bamboo fabric grows most.
- Keep garments short. Length is the dimension that grows.
- Put ribbing in the blend, or in cotton, if the garment needs a band that holds.
- Hang a weighted swatch for a day before you commit. It will tell you exactly how much the garment will lengthen.
- Choose accessories over garments if you are unsure - a shawl does not have to hold a shape.
It splits, and what to do about it
Bamboo filaments are smooth and the ply separates easily, so a sharp needle or hook tip goes through the middle of the yarn rather than around it.
- Use a blunter tip. This is one of the few cases where a rounded point is genuinely better.
- Guide, do not push. Splitting is usually a symptom of forcing the tip.
- Wood or bamboo tips grip it. Polished steel lets bamboo slide off the needle.
- Work in angled light. The sheen reflects straight back at you and hides the stitch structure.
