Buy Knitter's Pride Dreamz if your stitches slide off, if you knit mostly DK to worsted, or if metal tips feel cold and hard in your hands. The size range is the difference most comparisons skip: Dreamz stops at 8mm.
These are the two sets most often recommended to somebody buying their first interchangeables, and they sit at different prices, which makes the comparison look like a budget question. It is not. They are different tools that suit different knitting.

Size range is the decision
Thirteen pairs against nine sounds like a modest difference. It is not, because of where the nine stop.
- ChiaoGoo starts at US 2 / 2.75mm. Sock and fingering territory, on a circular, without buying a separate set.
- Dreamz starts at US 4 / 3.5mm, which is above most sock yarn.
- ChiaoGoo goes to US 15 / 10mm. Super bulky, blankets, chunky.
- Dreamz stops at US 11 / 8.0mm, which is below what most chunky patterns want.
Steel against wood
This is the difference people feel immediately and argue about permanently.

The points
ChiaoGoo's lace point is genuinely sharp. That is an advantage for lace, for k2tog and ssk decreases, and for any stitch where you have to get into a tight space.
It is a disadvantage with a loosely spun single, where a sharp tip splits the ply instead of going through the stitch, and for anybody who pushes the needle rather than guiding it. Dreamz's gentler taper is more forgiving on both counts.
Cables
- ChiaoGoo's red cables are memory free. They hang straight out of the case rather than coiling, which matters most for magic loop.
- Dreamz cables swivel at the connector, which stops the cable twisting as you turn the work.
- Both use a screw join with a key. Both will loosen mid-row if you do not tighten them properly; both are fine if you do.
- Neither cable is repairable. A split cable is a replacement cable.
The memory-free cable is the more consequential of the two. If you knit socks on magic loop, a cable that holds a coil is a daily irritation.
The lifeline hole
Every ChiaoGoo tip has a small hole drilled through it. Thread waste yarn through it, knit a round, and the lifeline is placed automatically as you go.
It is a small feature that matters enormously on lace and colorwork, because it makes a mistake recoverable instead of catastrophic. Nothing on the Dreamz set does this, and threading a lifeline by hand afterwards is a slow, fiddly job.
