There is no single definition, but the practical line is where the hooks change material. Below about 10mm hooks are aluminum or steel; above it they are plastic or resin, because an aluminum hook that size would be uncomfortably heavy.

What the fabric is actually like
- Fast. A jumbo blanket is an evening or two, which is the whole appeal.
- Open. Enormous stitches leave enormous gaps, even in super bulky yarn.
- Heavy. The yarn needed to cover the area is substantial, and it all hangs.
- Structureless. Stitch patterns do not read at this scale; shape and color do.
- Not especially warm. An open fabric lets air through, whatever it weighs.
Matching yarn to a jumbo hook
